High Performing Teams

Why is it that something so fundamental to a business should be so elusive? The answer is simple. Teams are made of up of human beings and human beings aren’t perfect. Therefore teams are inherently dysfunctional.

Our High Performing Teams Model overcomes these dysfunctions. It’s equally effective in developing new teams and helping existing teams reach their full potential.

Based on research and analysis of the key factors that differentiate high performing teams from the rest, it focuses on:

  • building trusting relationships between team members by building a strong team purpose.
  • team processes to make sure they are in place and working smoothly.
  • establishing roles for each team member, including a leader.
  • creating the right environment for success, experimentation and growth.

What makes a high performing team?

According to the research high performing teams significantly exceeded their commercial goals for three consecutive years or more. They are seen by others to be effective and cohesive. Team members were in unanimous agreement about the team’s purpose, role and goals, and enjoyed good relationships with other groups.

It identified eight key processes that are critical to success: vision and goals;
communications; performance management; leadership; decision making; team climate; resource management; and relationships with other teams. We use our Team Effectiveness Inventory to measure teams. We then analyse the results to see how well they operate against these eight processes.
